Piet Hein Eek

Piet Hein Eek is a Dutch designer who first made his mark upon the world in 1990 with a cupboard, created from scrap wood. This piece was seen as taking a stance against the immaculate and perfect furniture, overflowing into the world at this time.

Simple materials and simple designs have always been and continue to be Piet Hein Eek’s trademark, which is reflected in his collection of wallpapers that Lime Lace are proud to deliver to you here today.

Piet Hein Eek has often been called a “Sustainable Artist”, however his unique point of view on this that ‘Working with scrap wood was not inspired by a desire to recycle; I just don’t like to throw things away.’ He has a belief that there is no real other way of living other than to take a sustainable approach - it is a fundamental part of all of our lives.

As a custom wallpaper designer with an interesting view to design, Piet Hein Eek believes that making great, unique products has to take precedence over anything else. All of his designs for wallpaper rolls are unique: ‘Details were born from necessity, out of simplicity, but can be designed so that it looks like they are an enrichment’.

Piet Hein Eek is the original designer behind every single roll of custom designed wallpaper, whilst there are other designers out there who have work done under their name, Piet still does all the design himself, although in a recent interview he does say he has staff involved now for the production process: “I still check everything, but my employees do such a great job that there’s no need for me to be involved in producing anymore.”
